RG GREEN SYSTEMS achieves the prestigious FM APPROVAL certification for its high-pressure W-FOG UAP Water Mist system, certified for the protection of Hazard Category 1 (HC-1) occupancies.

This category allows the protection of the vast majority of common building hazards using RG GREEN SYSTEMS' W-FOG UAP high-pressure Water Mist system.

Proper protection of these hazards is guaranteed through successful completion of multiple full-scale fire tests under various scenarios, validating its performance in real fire situations within small compartments, large compartments, and open spaces.

The fire tests successfully passed to obtain FM APPROVAL comply with the testing procedures established by standard EN 14972-4:2024.

The FM APPROVED W-FOG UAP system is composed of high-quality, certified, and durable components: water storage tanks, filtration systems, high-pressure pump groups with a wide range of flow rates, sectional valves in various diameters, and water mist discharge nozzles in pendent and horizontal wall-mounted configurations. This ensures high effectiveness and seamless architectural integration.

These nozzles have been certified for the maximum coverage and hazard heights allowed by FM APPROVAL:

  • MM-P50-57-11: pendent nozzle, FM approved for use in any space with no area limitation, for ceiling heights up to 5.00 m, with 5.00 m x 5.00 m coverage spacing.
  • MM-W25-57-11: horizontal wall-mounted nozzle, FM approved for use in areas up to 100 m² and 5.00 m x 5.00 m coverage spacing.

OPERATION

The W-FOG UAP high-pressure Water Mist systems enhance the performance of both traditional sprinklers and low-pressure water mist systems.

The higher water pressure results in discharge as much smaller droplets, significantly increasing the extinguishing efficiency of the water over the fire.

These high-pressure water mist droplets, having a larger surface area, evaporate much more easily upon contact with heat. This leads to a faster and more intense impact on the fire, through both cooling and smothering, as the droplets quickly turn to steam and displace oxygen at the heat source—without affecting the air in the rest of the room.

This water vapor further reduces the temperature of combustion gases, improving structural protection by reducing ceiling heat

ADVANTAGES

The W-FOG UAP high-pressure Water Mist system offers the following advantages over other systems:

  • Exceptional fire suppression efficiency due to its ultra-fine high-pressure droplets.
  • Guaranteed performance through full-scale fire tests conducted in accredited laboratories.
  • Completely clean and environmentally friendly—produces no residue and is safe for people in public-use applications.
  • Safe for valuable assets and sensitive equipment, ideal for applications such as museums, exhibition halls, and laboratories.
  • Significantly lower water discharge compared to traditional sprinklers and low-pressure mist systems, minimizing fire-related water damage.
  • Capable of protecting spaces with up to 25 m² per nozzle, reducing the number of nozzles and piping required.
  • Lower flow rates allow for smaller diameter pipes, making piping networks easier to integrate within buildings.
  • Requires a smaller water reserve than other systems, making tank placement more flexible.
  • Recharging the extinguishing agent is economical, as it uses potable water from the supply network.
  • Highly reliable components, capable of withstanding high pressures and passing rigorous FM APPROVAL tests for quality, durability, and corrosion resistance.
  • Pipework installation with double-cone union system allows for simple and fast installation, reducing labor costs.
  • Highly versatile—can be used to protect other types of hazards with the same W-FOG UAP system.

COMPARISON WITH TRADITIONAL SPRINKLERS

The droplet size in W-FOG UAP water mist systems is so small that it evaporates much faster than traditional sprinkler droplets, drastically reducing fire temperatures and causing negligible water damage.

W-FOG UAP nozzles model MM-P50-57-11 have an approved coverage of 25 m². In contrast, traditional sprinklers typically cover only 12 m². This translates into more than a 50% reduction in components, piping, fittings, and labor for installation.

The discharge density of the W-FOG UAP system is only 0.25 lpm/m³, whereas the actual water discharge density with traditional sprinklers can be up to 10 times higher.

This significantly reduces water damage in the protected área. This is due to:

  • The higher design density required for traditional sprinklers—four times greater than that approved for the W-FOG UAP system.
  • Excess pressure in traditional sprinkler networks increases the actual flow discharged by the sprinklers activated in the operating area.

Statistically, over 90% of fires in such hazards are controlled with the activation of only 4 sprinklers, despite the pump group being sized for the minimum operating pressure of all sprinklers in the design area operating simultaneously.

In traditional sprinkler pump groups, if the nominal flow is not reached (because not all sprinklers activate), the system pressure increases, raising the actual water discharged in the protected area—especially since traditional sprinklers have a high K-Factor. This means even a small increase in pressure results in a large increase in discharged flow.

In contrast, W-FOG UAP pump groups include an overpressure valve that adjusts flow to the system’s exact demand, returning the excess to the water tank if the maximum number of nozzles in the design area does not activate. Even if the high-pressure water mist nozzles operate at slightly higher pressure, the increase in actual flow is minimal due to their low K-Factor.
